As the sun begins to set on my unforgettable journey through Greece, I find myself reflecting on the enchanting experiences I had in Athens and Corfu Island. With good company, indulgent wine, and tantalizing food, this trip was a feast for all my senses. However, as all good things must come to an end, it’s time to bid farewell to this paradise and return to the humdrum of reality.
Athens: A Historical Awakening
My adventure commenced in the ancient city of Athens, where I was greeted by a vibrant blend of history and modernity. Roaming the bustling streets, I marveled at the architectural wonders, with the iconic Acropolis standing majestically atop the city. As I climbed the marble steps, the Parthenon revealed itself, offering a breathtaking view of the city below.
In the evenings, my companions and I found solace in the charming family restaurant, where we indulged in traditional Greek cuisine. The flavors danced on our palates, with every bite of Greek Salad, Tzatziki with garlic bread, and some seafood pastas transporting us deeper into the heart of Greek culture. Accompanied by local wines, our evenings were filled with laughter, stories, more in deep intimacy and a profound appreciation for the richness of Greek gastronomy.
Corfu Island: A Beachside Paradise
Leaving Athens behind, we flew for Corfu Island, a verdant gem in the Ionian Sea. The moment we stepped onto the island, we were greeted by crystal-clear turquoise waters and lush landscapes that seemed to whisper tales of tranquility. Our days were spent basking under the warm Mediterranean sun with some cloudy and rainy days as well, indulging in lazy beachside siestas, and cooling off with refreshing walks. I even realized that plenty of dogs and cats were having such a relaxing life out there.
Exploring Corfu’s charming villages, we were captivated by the island’s undeniable charm. The narrow streets of Corfu Town beckoned us, adorned with Venetian-style buildings and inviting cafes. With every step, we discovered hidden treasures, from picturesque squares to quaint boutiques. In the evenings, we dined al fresco, savoring freshly caught seafood and sipping on local wines while witnessing the sun gracefully set over the horizon.
As the last days of our trip approached, a sense of melancholy settled in. Time had flown by, and the reality of bidding farewell to this enchanting land began to weigh upon our hearts. We reminisced about the laughter, charm and amazing lady, Madalena, the owner of the ‘’ Sunrock’’ hostel, who was so welcoming and cooked amazing breakfast and dinner for us, all organic and produce from her farm, using her special ingredients ” lots of love”.
However, as I packed my bags to return home, I remind myself that the memories created during this trip will forever be cherished. The taste of Greek cuisine, the warmth of the Mediterranean sun, and the company shared with loved ones will stay with me, even as I embrace the routines of everyday life.
My journey through Athens and Corfu Island has been an extraordinary adventure, one filled with laughter, culinary delights, and unforgettable moments. From the historical wonders of Athens to the tranquil beauty of Corfu, Greece has left an indelible mark on my soul.
While the end of this trip brings a tinge of sadness, I am grateful for the experiences and memories that will accompany me back to reality. Greece, with its rich culture, captivating landscapes, and warm hospitality, has rekindled my love for exploration and reminded me of the beauty that lies beyond our everyday lives. Until we meet again, Greece, I carry you in my heart.
